Milch, Erhard (1893-1972)

German field marshal in World War II. Although not a pilot he commanded a fighter group during World War I and 1926 became chairman of Lufthansa, the German national airline. Using this cover, he trained pilots and developed equipment for the future Luftwaffe air force. In 1936 he became General der Flieger of the Luftwaffe and 1941 took over responsibility for aircraft production. Imprisoned as a war criminal, he was released in 1955.
