Millburn

Township in Essex County, northeastern New Jersey; population (1990) 18,600. Millburn lies on the Rahway River, in the Watchung Mountains, 10 km/6 mi west of Newark.

Millburn was settled in the early 18th century, and became a manufacturing centre in the 19th century. Today it is primarily residential, and includes the fashionable community of Short Hills within its borders. There are also corporate offices and some light industry here. It is the site of the Papermill Playhouse, the official state theatre of New Jersey.
