Mills, Wilbur

Mills, Wilbur (Daigh) (1909–1992)

US representative. He chaired the powerful Committee on Ways and Means (1957–73) and the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue before personal scandal forced him to resign.

Born in Kensett, Arkansas, Mills graduated from Harvard University law school to become a Democratic county and probate judge in White County, Arkansas (1934–38) before going to the US House of Representatives (1939–77).
