Mindoro Oriental

Province of eastern Mindoro Island in the Philippines; area 4,364 sq km/1,685 sq mi; population (1995) 609,000. The capital is Calapan. The land is fertile, being irrigated by numerous rivers and streams. The province contains Lake Navjan (area 70 sq km/27 sq mi). The main products are rice, corn, coconuts, and citrus fruit. There are coral gardens at Sogvicay Bay, which is a marine reserve.
