Mineola

Village and seat of Nassau County, within North Hempstead town, southeastern New York State; population (1990) 19,000. Mineola is situated on Long Island, 32 km/20 mi east of Manhattan.

Although Mineola is mainly residential, it is also a commercial centre for central Long Island, and has some light industry. It was founded in the 17th century by settlers from Connecticut.
