Minya

Governorate in northeastern Egypt; area 2,262 sq km/873 sq mi; population (1995 est) 3,372,000. The capital of the governorate, Al-Minya, is an important trade link between the west bank of the River Nile and the Bahr Yusuf Canal.

In May the Minya Criminal Court acquitted a Muslim man, Gamal Rostom, of the murder Christian Yeshoa'a Gamal Nashed during sectarian clashes in the village of El-Tiba, Samalout in October 2008.
Cairo over Church Renovations Muslim and Copts clashed on Wednesday in Al Minya Governorate south of Cairo on the back of the reconstruction of a church in the area, the pan-Arab daily ASHARQ AL AWSAT reported Thursday.
