Mirabel

City in southern Québec, 39 km/24 mi northwest of Montréal; population (1990) 18,000. It is the site of Montréal's second international airport, built in 1975 and connected to the city by the Laurentian Autoroute.

Mirabel was created in 1979 by the merger of 14 former municipalities. The economy of the region remains agricultural, while Mirabel itself is dominated by the airport and related businesses.
