Mission Viejo

City in Orange County, southwestern California, 80 km/50 mi southeast of Los Angeles; population (1990) 72,800. It is situated in foothills 11 km/7 mi northeast of Laguna Beach and the Pacific Ocean

Originally part of Rancho Santa Margarita, Mission Viejo is a planned community that was begun in 1965. It is now a rapidly growing, prosperous residential city. El Toro lies immediately to the northwest.
