Mitchinson, John (1932– )

English tenor. He studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music and sang in concert before his stage debut as Jupiter in Semele with the Handel Opera Society. Notable roles with Welsh National Opera (1978–82) have included Tristan (under Goodall); he has also sung at Opera North and at the Buxton Festival (Max, 1983). His concerts repertory includes Mahler's eighth symphony and Das Lied von der Erde, Janáček's Glagolitic Mass, and Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius.
