Mitridate, Rè di Ponto

Opera by Mozart (libretto by V A Cigna-Santi, based on a tragedy by Racine), produced at the Teatro Regio Ducal, Milan, on 26 December 1770. Brothers Sifare and Farnace love Aspasia, the fiancée of Mithridates. Mithridates is reported killed in battle, but returns and learns of the infidelity. Mortally wounded, however, he gives his blessing to Sifare's and Aspasia's union.
