Model Parliament

English parliament set up in 1295 by Edward I; it was the first to include representatives from outside the clergy and aristocracy, and was established because Edward needed the support of the whole country against his opponents: Wales, France, and Scotland. His sole aim was to raise money for military purposes, and the parliament did not pass any legislation.

Edward I			The first Parliament is often considered to be the Model Parliament in 1295, which included church leaders, earls, barons, and representatives of the shires and boroughs.
