Mohács

River port in southern Hungary, on the Danube, near the Croatian border, 37 km/23 mi east of Pécs; population (1993) 20,100. Coal is mined in the district. During the 16th and 17th centuries, two decisive battles were fought with the Ottoman Turks at the town.
