Moldenhauer, Hans (1906-1987)

US musicologist. He studied with Rosbaud in Mainz and was active as a répétiteur and conductor in different European cities. In 1939 he went to the USA, where after further studies he became director and then president of the Spokane Conservatory (WA) and lecturer at the University of Washington. Moldenhauer's most important contribution to scholarship was his recovery of a large number of Webern manuscripts and documents, including some previously unknown works, and their publication. Books on Webern include The Death of Anton Webern, A Drama in Documents (1961) and Anton Webern: Chronicle of his Life and Work (1978). He became blind in 1980.
