molecular cloud

In astronomy, enormous cloud of cool interstellar dust and gas containing hydrogen molecules and more complex molecular species. Giant molecular clouds (GMCs), about a million times as massive as the Sun and up to 300 light years in diameter, are regions in which stars are being born. The Orion nebula is part of a GMC.
