Molina Barraza, Arturo Armando (1928– )

El Salvadorean soldier and politician, member of the conservative-reformist National Conciliation Party (PCN), president 1972–77. His administration promoted agrarian reform and improvements in housing and health provision.

He was chosen as the candidate of the government-backed PCN for the 1972 presidential election. He won a plurality of the vote, defeating the left-wing mayor of San Salvador, José Napoleón Duarte.

Trained at El Salvador's Military College, Molina, a professional soldier, became a colonel and secretary under President Fidel Sánchez Hernández.
