Molique, Bernhard

Molique, (Wilhelm) Bernhard (1802–1869)

German violinist and composer. He was a pupil of Spohr and of Rovelli at Munich, where he succeeded Rovelli as leader of the orchestra in 1820. After some time in the orchestra of the Theater an der Wien, he toured widely, became leader in the royal orchestra at Stuttgart in 1826. He settled in London in 1849 and returned to Germany in 1866.

Works

two masses; oratorio Abraham (1861); symphony; six violin concertos (1827–46); eight string quartets (1841–53), two piano trios, duets for violins and flute and violin; violin studies and pieces.
