Molter, Johann Melchoir (1696-1765)

German composer. He is known today for having written 170 symphonies (strictly, sinfonias). He also wrote 66 concertos, including 6 for clarinet, and a Passion.

He was Kapellmeister at the court at Karlsruhe, where he was responsible for opera production 1722-33. After a time as director of church music at Eisenach 1734-41 he returned to Karlsruhe. He made several visits to Italy.
