Monclova

Town in the east of the state of Coahuila, in northeast central Mexico; population (1995) 189,700. It is situated at an altitude of 576 m/1,890 ft. Monclova is 160 km/99 mi north of Saltillo and is an important railway junction. It is the site of Altos Hornos, one of Mexico's largest steel mills. It is also the commercial centre of an agricultural district producing wheat and maize.
