System by which one currency can be converted into the money of another; US dollars, euros, and Japanese yen are examples of foreign currencies into which a holder of pounds sterling may convert their money. The foreign exchange market includes trading between governments, central banks' other financial institutions, multinational corporations, and currency speculators.
