Montélimar

Town on the River Roubion in the Drôme département, Dauphiné region of southeast France; population (1990) 31,400. It is known for the nougat to which its name is given. The River Rhône is not far away, and between it and the town is one of the canals that forms part of the Rhône Valley network.

It is an agricultural centre, with textile and chocolate industries. The town is overlooked by the ruins of a 12th-century castle, and nearby are the remains of a medieval walled village.
