Montague, Diana (1953– )

English mezzo-soprano. She studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and made her opera debut in 1977, with Glyndebourne Touring Opera, as Zerlina. She appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London 1978–83, as Annius, Nicklausse, and Cherubino. In 1983 she made her Bayreuth debut, in the Ring; in 1986 her Salzburg Festival debut, as Cherubino; and in 1989 her Glyndebourne debut, as Orpheus. She was seen at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York from 1987, as Sextus, Dorabella, and Nicklausse. Other roles include Janáček's Fox (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 1990), Idamante (Salzburg, 1990) and Gluck's Taurean Iphigenia (Welsh National Opera, 1992). Her many concert engagements have included a performance of the Missa Solemnis in Chicago in 1984.
