Montague, Stephen

Montague, Stephen (1943– )

US composer. He moved to London in 1975 and toured widely with Philip Mead from 1985 in a piano duo. He was co-founder of the Electro-Acoustic Music Association of Great Britain, and his music has been featured at the Warsaw, Paris, and Edinburgh Festivals and at the John Cage Festival, London.

He studied at Florida State and Ohio State Universities, USA.

Orchestral

At the White Edge of Phrygia for chamber orchestra (1983), Prologue for orchestra (1984), piano concerto (1988).

Vocal

Varshavjan Spring for chorus and chamber orchestra (1973–80), Sotto Voce for chorus and electronics (1976), Boom-box Virelai for four male voices (1993).

Other

two string quartets (1989, 1992); keyboard music and electronic pieces.
