Montalembert, Charles Forbes de Tryon

Montalembert, Charles Forbes de Tryon (1810–1870)

French historian. In 1830 he joined the French priest Félicité de Lamennais on the staff of the liberal newspaper L'Avenir/The Future, but later severed his connection with this and became a devout Catholic. His great work was Les Moines d'occident depuis St Benoît jusqu'à St Bernard/Monks of the West (1860–77).

His other works include his Histoire de Ste Elisabeth d'Hongroie (1836) and Du Vandalisme et du catholicisme (1839).
