Montand, Yves (1921–1991)

Italian-born French actor and singer. Popular in France from the 1950s, he also appeared in such US films as Let's Make Love in 1960 (with Marilyn Monroe). Later films include Z (1968), L'Aveu/The Confession (1970), Le Sauvage/The Savage (1976), Jean de Florette (1986), and Manon des Sources (1986).

Montand, a protégé of Edith Piaf, first became known for his music-hall performances. He made his cinema breakthrough in the thriller Le Salaire de la peur/The Wages of Fear (1953).
