Montauk Point

Headland on Long Island, which forms the easternmost point of New York State. Montauk Point stands at the end of the South Fork promontory, 185 km/115 mi east-northeast of New York City. Administratively, it is situated in East Hampton town, Suffolk County.

A lighthouse has stood on Montauk Point since 1745. Some 8 km/5 mi southwest lies the resort village of Montauk; population (1990) 3,000.
