Monterrey| Industrial city in northeastern Mexico, capital of Nuevo Léon state; population (2005) 3,664,300. Founded in 1597, it is a major centre of industry, including a large part of the country's iron and steel manufacture, as well as the processing of copper, lead, silver, and zinc. Other industries include brewing and the manufacture of paper and glass. |
