Montgomery, Gabriel (c. 1530–1574)

French soldier and officer in the Scottish Guard of the king of France. He accidentally killed Henry II in a tournament and took refuge in England, where he became a Protestant. He returned to France on the outbreak of the religious wars in 1562 to fight for the Huguenots. He escaped from the Massacre of St Bartholomew but was later captured and beheaded in Paris.
