Montour Falls

Village in Montour township, Schuyler County, west-central New York State; population (1990) 1,800. Montour Falls stands on Catharine Creek, 5 km/3 mi south-southeast of Watkins Glen and the southern tip of Seneca Lake.

Montour Falls was once the site of Catherine's Town, a Seneca settlement governed by ‘Queen’ Catharine Montour. The village is surrounded by seven picturesque valleys which contain a number of caverns, cliffs, and waterfalls, the most famous of which – Shequaga Falls – is 48 m/156 ft high. There is some manufacturing, and the village is also a summer resort.
