Moody, Dwight Lyman (1837-1899)

US evangelist. During the American Civil War (1861-65), he provided medical and moral support to the troops. In the 1870s he became a popular evangelist, and founded the Northfield Seminary (now School) for girls in 1879 and the Mount Hermon School for boys in 1881, both in his home town of Northfield, Massachusetts.
