Moora

Town in the midlands of Western Australia, 174 km/108 mi north of Perth; population (1996) 1,700. The economy centres on sheep, cereal crops (particularly wheat), and agricultural service industries. Historic buildings include the Flour Mill (1847), now a museum.

The town lies at the heart of a large mixed agricultural region, which began to emerge in the 1840s. A railway into the region was constructed in 1894 and facilitated the rapid expansion of agriculture. Although a settlement existed, Moora was not officially proclaimed a town until 1908.
