Moore, R(aymond) C(ecil) (1892–1974)

US palaeontologist and geologist. Best remembered for organizing and directing the 27-volume Treatise on Invertebrate Palaeontology (1948), he also published widely on petroleum, structural geology, stratigraphy, and invertebrate palaeontology.

Born in Roslyn, Washington, he gained his PhD from the University of Chicago. Moore was a member of the US Geological Survey (1913–49) and a Kansas state geologist (1916–54); he taught at the University of Kansas (1916–70).
