Mooringsport

Town within Caddo Parish, northwestern Louisiana; population (1990) 900. Mooringsport lies on Caddo Lake, 27 km/17 mi northwest of Shreveport and 6 km/4 mi east of the Texas border. The surrounding countryside has agriculture and oil wells. The celebrated blues singer Leadbelly (Huddie William Ledbetter) was born here in 1888.
