MoravianMember of a Christian Protestant sect, the Moravian Brethren. An episcopal church that grew out of the earlier Bohemian Brethren, it was established by the Lutheran Count Zinzendorf in Saxony in 1722. Persecution of the Bohemian Brethren began 1620, and they were held together mainly by the leadership of their bishop, Comenius (Jan Komensky). Driven out of Bohemia in 1722, they spread into Germany, England, and North America. In 1732 missionary work began.
