Morceli, Noureddine (1970– )

Algerian middle-distance runner. He broke the world mile record in 1993 with a run of 3 minutes 44.39 seconds, and in 1995 he lowered the 1,500-metre world record to 3 minutes 27.37 seconds. That record was broken in July 1998 by Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj (3 minutes 26.00 seconds). He won three consecutive 1,500-metre world titles 1991–95 and Olympic gold in Atlanta in 1996.
