Morehead

City and seat of Rowan County, northeastern Kentucky; population (2000) 5,900. Morehead lies within the Daniel Boone National Forest, 93 km/58 mi east of Lexington.

Morehead is located in an area that produces timber, burley tobacco, and clay. Its manufactures include firebricks, clay pipes, concrete and wood products, clothing, soft drinks, and timber. Morehead State University (founded 1923) is situated here.
