Moretti, Nanni (1953– )

Italian film director, actor, producer, and screenwriter. His films are known for their ironic view of modern society and the depth of characters. He was the director and star of La Stanza del figlio/The Son's Room (2001), which won the Palme d'Or at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival.

His first feature film, a cult classic in Italy, was the comedy Ecce Bombo (1978). He achieved international success with Caro Diario/Dear Diary (1994), for which he won the best director award at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival. Other films include Palombella rossa/Red Wood Pigeon (1989), La Cosa/The Thing (1993), and Aprile/April (1998).
