Moretto, Alessandro Bonvicino

    0.10 sec.

Moretto, Alessandro Bonvicino (1498–1554)

Italian painter. He worked in Brescia, painting primarily portraits, his style based on that of his teacher Giovanni Bellini and his fellow pupil Titian. He also produced church frescoes and a number of altarpieces. A fine example of his portraiture is the Count Martinengo Cesaresco (National Gallery, London).

He was also sensitive to northern European influences, his Portrait of a Gentleman (1526, National Gallery) – one of the first full-length and life-size portraits in Italian art – being indebted to Lucas Cranach the Elder.
