Morley, Malcolm

    0.04 sec.

Morley, Malcolm (1931- )

English painter; active in New York from 1964. He coined the term ‘superrealism’ (equivalent to photorealism) for his work in the 1960s, which was characterized by intense, photographic realism and attention to minute detail. His subjects include landscapes and animals combined with mythological motifs; he also paints abstracts. In 1984 he was awarded the first Turner Prize. By this time he had turned away from superrealism, and was painting in a much looser style.
