Moroni

Capital, largest town, and main port of the Comoros Republic, on Njazidja (Grand Comore) Island near the northern limit of the Mozambique Channel; population (1992) 22,000. It has a small natural harbour from which coffee, cacao, and vanilla are exported. Local agricultural markets trade in coconuts, cassava, bananas, and rice.
