Moroni, Giambattista

    0.07 sec.

Moroni, Giambattista (1510–1578)

Italian painter. His portraits won the praise of Titian; he also painted many religious works. His quiet and straightforwardly realistic style, without formality of pose or deep analysis of character, enabled him to portray a type perfectly, as in The Tailor, (c. 1570, National Gallery, London).

Moroni was born in Albino, Bergamo. He was a pupil of Alessandro Moretto, from whom he inherited the practice of painting full-size, often full-length, portraits.
