Morris, Lewis

Morris, Lewis (1833–1907)

Welsh poet. His works include Songs of Two Worlds 1871–75, The Epic of Hades 1876–77, Gwen, a Drama in Monologue 1879, Songs Unsung 1883, Songs of Britain 1887 (containing odes on the queen's jubilee and the foundation of the Imperial Institute), Idylls and Lyrics 1896, and The New Rambler: From Desk to Platform 1905.

He was born in Carmarthen, a great-grandson of the Welsh poet Lewis Morris (died 1765). He graduated from Oxford 1855 and practised law until 1881. Always interested in higher education, he became deputy chancellor of the University of Wales.
