Morrisburg

Village in Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry United Counties, southeastern Ontario; population (1990) 2,400. Situated on the St Lawrence River, Morrisburg stands 35 km/22 mi west-southwest of Cornwall.

As a result of the construction of the St Lawrence Seaway in the 1950s, the community of Morrisburg was forced to move to higher ground. However, buildings from the original 1860s town were relocated and preserved at Upper Canada Village, a major tourist attraction 11 km/7 mi to the east. The village stands in the park that also commemorates the nearby battle of Crysler's Farm (1813). Today Morrisburg is a centre for tourism and commerce with some light industry.
