Morte D'Arthur, Le

Series of episodes from the legendary life of King Arthur by Thomas Malory, completed in 1470, regarded as the first great prose work in English literature. Only the last of the eight books composing the series is titled Le Morte D'Arthur.

Based on an unidentified ‘French book’, with imaginative additions from other sources, it admirably bridges the transition from the medieval to the modern world, varying in style from a courtly refinement to a more blunt emotional directness.
