Moscow Canal

Moscow Canal

Artificial waterway connecting the River Moskva with the upper Volga. The canal has a total length of 128 km/80 mi, and was constructed in 1932–37. It plays a major role in providing Moscow with water and enables river traffic to reach the capital from the White, Baltic, Caspian, Azov, and Black seas. There are eight hydroelectric stations along the waterway.
