Moses Lake

City in Grant County, central Washington State; population (2000) 15,000. The city stands on the eastern shore of Moses Lake, 89 km/54 mi east-southeast of Wenatchee.

Moses Lake was settled in 1897, and serves as a market and distribution centre for the agricultural products of the Columbia Basin. Food processing (sugar, dairy goods) is an important industry in the city. Big Bend Community College (founded 1962) is situated here. Recreational facilities southwest of the city include Moses Lake State Park (5 km/3 mi distant), the Potholes Wildlife Area, and Potholes Reservoir.
