Moses und Aron

Opera in two acts by Schoenberg (the projected third act was never composed; libretto by the composer), first performed (concert), in Hamburg on 12 March 1954; produced in Zurich on 6 June 1957 (music composed 1930–32). Moses and his brother Aaron bring God's message to the people, but the Israelites cannot understand Moses' abstract ideas. Aaron leads an orgy around the Golden Calf, but Moses interrupts with the Tablets of the Law.
