Moskva (river)

    0.03 sec.

Moskva

River in the Moscow and Smolensk oblasti (regions) of the Russian Federation; length 502 km/312 mi, with a drainage basin of 17,600 sq km/6,795 mi. The Moskva rises in the west Moscow uplands; it supplies much of Moscow's water, and is linked with the Volga by the Moscow Canal, below which it is navigable. Its flow is regulated by a series of reservoirs and dams. The river is frozen from November to April; however, within the boundary of Moscow itself it freezes less frequently due to the presence of warm domestic and industrial effluents.
