Mosonyi, Mihály (1815–1870)

Hungarian composer. He studied at Pozsony (now Bratislava) and was music master to a noble family 1835–42, then settled at Budapest. He changed his German name of Brand in 1859, when he began to aim at writing Hungarian national music.

Kaiser Max auf der Martinswand (composed 1857), The Fair Ilonka (1861), and Almos (1862), both in Hungarian.
