Mostel, Zero (Samuel Joel) (1915–1977)

US comedian and actor. He worked mainly in the theatre, receiving Tony Awards for his performances in Rhinoceros (1961), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1962), and Fiddler on the Roof (1964). Of his films, his performance in Mel Brooks's The Producers (1968) is his best-known; other films include Panic in the Streets (1950) and The Front (1976).
