Motion Picture Association of America

Trade association founded in 1922, which operates the US film rating system that began in 1968. Until 1945 it was known as the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA). The rating system replaced its older Motion Picture Production Code, or Hays Code.
